A Chance To Be Me — An Inspirational Poem

The sun pounds down.
It’s hot, so I move to the shade.
Another long day
Working hard; so little pay.

Why must I do this?
Why must I try?
There’s got to be another way.
I’ll figure out why.

Move from the South
Try something new
What are the chances
I’ll still be blue?

I’d rather try
Than keep things the same.
Lost in the muck and they
They know not my name.

I can be whatever I want.
No need to beat me and taunt.
I’m a person strong as can be.
Just want a chance to learn to be me.
