Your Life is Limitless! What is holding you back?
Everyone has big dreams and goals, but why is it that most of us seldom accomplish our goals? I think I know the reasons and I am going to tackle them head on! Join me and see where you might be falling into the excuse-laden trap for not pursuing your dreams.
TIME — “I just don’t have the time,” is the most common excuse of all! Funny thing is that we all have the same number of minutes each day. It is all a matter of how we spend those minutes. Accomplished people prioritize their top goal(s) and work on it/them first, not last. The problem with pursuing your big ticket items after all the daily minutia is that it is never really done. There is always one more email to answer, one more bill to pay, and one more episode to watch on Netflix. By focusing or prioritizing your goal, you will find time for it.
MONEY — This is another often-used excuse. I offer another totally different perspective: If you wait for the money, it will never appear; but if you set the goal and work towards it, the money will come. Try it — it works! You see, when we really want something, we can figure out the money part. It is never really the money that is holding us back.
OPPORTUNITY — “When the time is right, then I will make my move.” Problem is the time is never right. High achievers make their own opportunities. They see opportunities when others see problems. That is the difference between those that do and those who sit on the sidelines.
THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS — This is a new one: “I just can’t get ahead because I don’t have the right connections.” True, the right connections can help get you or your products known. But what about going out and cultivating those connections instead of waiting for them to find you? People like to help, especially if it is for a worthy endeavor. Don’t be afraid to reach out to them. Sure, they might say “no,” but they just might say “yes,” especially if you are not deterred and keep trying.
DESIRE/PASSION — Desire might get you started, but it’s passion that is the driving force that will enable you to reach your dreams. You might want something really bad, but what are willing to do to get it? Are you willing to put in the time, effort, disappointment, ridicule, fatigue, and not let anything stop you? If you aren’t willing to do this much and more, then you don’t really have the deep burning desire (more like a passion) necessary to reach your goal. It takes more than a whim to accomplish big things in life. It’s not supposed to come easy, otherwise everyone would do it.
YOURSELF — We are often our worst critics. We don’t feel confident enough, smart enough, or maybe worthy-enough to accomplish our big audacious goal. We don’t know how to do it. Or we might be afraid to do it. If we really want to achieve something, we are willing to put aside doubt, fear, uncertainty, vanity, and figure it out. If that means asking for help, we are willing to do so. If it means research and study, we do so. We are willing to do whatever it takes.
So, the next time you have a big dream or a goal, sit back and reflect on what you are willing to do to achieve it. Recognize your “excuses” and figure out how to counteract them. Figure out how you can rise to the challenge. Become the limitless creature you were designed to be. We all can do it, but you can be one who actually does!
